"Jeen-Yuhs" Press Release
Jeen-Yuhs is a Kanye West Trilogy that invites the audience to view live footage of Kanye West's rise of popularity and concentrates on his qualities as a person that led him to persevere in the hip hop industry as "a misfit". This footage was planned to be taken to document his rise to fame before Kanye West was ever a house hold name which makes the documentary all the more astounding to experience him manifest his career before our own eyes. A Vanity Fair Article discusses the role of Donda West in Jeen-Yuhs as influential factor in his career. The documentary provides footage of intimate interactions of Kanye West with his mother, Donda West, who is the person who Kanye credits the most for his success, and named his most recent albums, Donda and Donda 2, after. These interactions allows the audience to see how much his mother meant to him as she supports him on his road to victory and also provides insight into how her death would later affect him. A Rolling Stone Article discusses how this documentary reflects the persona of Kanye West before he was defined by his fame known as "the old Kanye" - which is what many people today say they miss about the artist before he was "corrupted". However, this documentary provides a lot of insight into the components of the environment that contributed to all the things that made him the man he is today- including the things that contributed to his "corruption". In one clip, an unknown Kanye West is seen performing one of his songs, "All Falls Down", live for associates of Roc-a-fella Records , and they would ignore him like he was nothing; that same song would later go double platinum. This not only reflects the perseverance and authenticity of his character, but also the criticisms that come along with being authentic. On one account, someone might think "who does this guy think he is?", and this documentary would then show you that he's Kanye West.
